Background and ethos

The story of how we went from retirement party to music festival.

Our story

Secret Valley Fest is what happens to the family farm when three siblings become a dancer/dance event organiser, a musician/DJ, and a sound and light tech.

Nearly thirty years ago, the family team behind Secret Valley Fest moved into a farmhouse with 11 acres of land, not far from Abergavenny. Back then we were mostly trying to keep the sheep from wandering off before we got all the fences fixed up.

Flash forward a few decades and Kevin and Sally have been expanding the farm, growing sheep, hay and wildflowers organically and looking after the land. Siân, Ceri and Huw have all independently found their way into creative projects.

We’re a family of festival lovers - between us we’ve been to Glastonbury, Green Man, Bestival, Shambala, WOMAD, Love Supreme, Boomtown, and countless others. Ceri’s even played a few.

For Kevin’s retirement, he wanted a big party in the fields, and so we threw Farm Fest in 2022 - live music, dancing, tractor games, paella, and a spontaneous 4 hour DJ set from Ceri. And it was so good we wanted to do it again!

So in 2024, we launched our first ever full Secret Valley Fest. We chose the most magical area of land, which was totally off-grid. We had a shoestring budget, and made the stage from an old tractor trailer, and decorations from whatever we could find in the shed.

Now, we’re hooked, and it’s just going to keep getting better.

Our values

The party of the year

We’re here to have fun, first and foremost. Our music line-up is at the heart of what SVF is about, and we are here with one goal - to show you a good time.

Everyone is welcome

We’re here to bring communities together. Last year we loved seeing our local farming community mingling the Bristol and London queer scenes to name but a few, with people of all ages and backgrounds dancing together.

Hand in hand with the land

Secret Valley Fest is on an organic farm, so taking care of the land and incredible wildflowers that have grown over the last few decades is really important to us. We want to keep things as sustainable as possible by encouraging ride-shares, keeping plastics to a minimum, and asking festival goers to leave no trace.
